The newest Justice League trailer shows a cheerful team ready to take on a dark evil.
November is just around the corner and that means Warner Bros. is ramping up on its marketing for Justice League. At San Diego Comic-Con 2017, the studio had already given us a more optimistic version of its DC Extended Universe team-up with an extended trailer. Today, Warner Bros. continues that sentiment with it’s “Heroes” trailer.
In a first for Justice League‘s footage, we see Henry Cavill—but not as Superman. He’s Clark Kent sans the glasses. It’s a melancholy scene and it shows the void the Man of Steel has left since his death by the hands of the Lex-Luthor-created Doomsday. Ben Affleck’s Bruce Wayne gives an inspiring voice-over that’s coupled with a very appropriate cover of David Bowie’s “Heroes.”
Within seconds, we see the Leaguers working together—and most importantly—flashing some bright smiles. It’s a great balance of serious action and heartwarming heroics—our protagonists actually want to be here and save the world. It’s definitely a one-eighty from what we saw in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice (2016).
Another differentiator in this final trailer from Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice is the fact that we still don’t know what’s going on, and a lot of the surprises are still yet to be seen on the big screen (remember that huge Doomsday spoiler in the final trailer for the 2016 debacle?). This is how a trailer should be cut—give us the sizzle and not the steak. It definitely revs up excitement for this film.
It’s hard not to get excited when the players themselves are completely amped up. I’m making a prediction right now: Aquaman, like Wonder Woman in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, will completely steal the show. The juxtaposition of his fratboy-like intensity and antics against the Dark Knight’s seriousness will definitely be the source of great humor.

Justice League will be released on November 17, 2017.
