A new story trailer for Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite has arrived and shows off some of what players can expect from the game.
There are few video game franchises that have as dedicated fans as the Marvel vs. Capcom series.
The enduring concept first arrived on the scene in 1996 as an arcade game titled X-Men vs. Street Fighter. The game was a huge hit and quickly arrived on the Sega Saturn and original Playstation to the delight of gamers everywhere.
In the years since, gamers have enjoyed having Wolverine face off against Cammy or Iron Man battle Ryu. Unfortunately, the last real entry in the series was released way back in 2011 in the form of Marvel vs. Capcom 3: Fate of Two Worlds. Since then, despite fans asking and asking and asking, the odds of a new entry seemed on the slim side.
Fast forward to 2016 and the Playstation Experience event at which a proper fourth entry in the series was announced. Marvel Vs. Capcom: Infinite will be released in September of this year and will include 30 playable characters at launch. Unfortunately, the X-Men have been dropped from the roster in favor of characters that are part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but at this point fans will take whatever they can get.
Since the announcement, Capcom has released a steady stream of clips and previews of which characters will be in the game and various gameplay elements gamers can expect. And on Thursday, Capcom dropped an all new trailer that puts the focus on the plot gamers will play through in story mode.
In the new trailer, we get a look at Ultron Sigma, the main villain of the game, as well as out first look at Ghost Rider and Dormammu. The trailer doesn’t feature any gameplay, but does explain the story and exactly why the various characters in the game are trying to beat the snot out of each other.
It is expected that much more about what the gameplay will be like and more details about the roster will be revealed next week at Gamescom.
From watching the trailer you can see that the graphics look stunning and the various characters are pretty much spot on visually. The addition of Rocket Raccoon will add a nice dose of humor, something I thought might be absent given the fact Deadpool is nowhere to be found.
In fact, it’s a real shame the X-Men are not included in the roster for a game this incredible looking. But given that Capcom has already said more characters will become available in future DLC, all hope is not lost that we may yet see Wolverine in the game at some point.
Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite is set for release on September 19 on PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC.
