Marvel has disclosed some of the information surrounding the milestone 800th issue of Amazing Spider-Man, which will be one of Dan Slott’s last.

Thanks to Marvel Legacy and the sometimes byzantine math the publisher has used to account for the numbering of some of their longer running books, readers are getting a truckload of anniversary issues as of late.

The Mighty Thor recently celebrated issue #700 and Avengers just launched the “No Surrender” storyline with issue #675. Soon Invincible Iron Man will join the club with a 600th issue and you know eventually one of the X-Men titles with get a renumbering down the road.

Now in May, it’s the Amazing Spier-Man‘s turn.

That’s when Amazing Spider-Man #800 will arrive in comic book stores everywhere, the first Marvel title to reach that auspicious number. Not just that, it will also be the penultimate issue of Dan Slott’s impressive ten-year run writing the book.

So it should be no surprise that Marvel is pulling out all the stops for this one.

Amazing Spider-Man #800 will be an 80-page monstrosity that will feature the conclusion of the “Go Down Swinging” arc that has Spider-Man going up against a new and improved Norman Osborn as the Red Goblin.

Regular artist Stuart Immonen will be joined by artists Humberto Ramos, Giuseppe Camuncoli and Jim Cheung on the book, which seems only appropriate. Each have worked on Amazing Spider-Man in the past and have helped to create some of the biggest moments of Slott’s run.

According to Amazing Spider-Man editor Nick Lowe, you should start preparing yourself now.

“AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #800 is the biggest single-issue story I’ve ever worked on. It’s 80 pages of story! And Dan and Stuart are being joined by some very important past AMAZING SPIDER-MAN artists to bring it to you in the coolest way possible! Everything you’ve loved about Dan Slott’s run on this book is on full display in this monumental issue that will have you shivering, crying, cheering, laughing and wishing it would never end!”

While I have enjoyed the bulk of the work Dan Slott has done on Amazing Spider-Man, I have to say I’m glad to that he has decided to move over to Invincible Iron Man. I have felt for a while now that a fresh take on Peter Parker is needed and an 800th issue seems like the perfect place to bring the curtain down.
